Brooklyn Reading & Some Very Good News
A group author reading at Brooklyn Books and Booze, May 21st plus vague-blogging some very exciting news
One of the risks of this solitary pursuit of writing is that it’s just that: solitary. We toil away for hours, weeks, months & years at a piece of fiction, often eschewing food, exercise, significant others, family. We do this because the work calls to us, it speaks to us in the way that dreams and syncronicities do, in metaphor. It’s a strangely alluring pull, swirling in veiled mysteries. “Where do you get your ideas?” the well-meaning person innocently asks. “I have no f—ing clue,” the honest writer replies. And though the well of ideas is vast and unfathomable, we willingly swim the deeps, exploring its dark waters, hunting for light.
But every so often we must rise to the surface and come up for air. And even less often (for me, at least) we get to share our creations with others. That’s why I’m so excited about an upcoming even where I’ll have a chance to do just that:
On Tuesday, May 21st, I’ll be reading at the Brooklyn Books & Booze reading series with Christina Cooke, M.M. DeVoe, and Nicholas Kaufmann.
I’m fairly certain I’m going to read a new dark science-fiction short story that I’m particularly excited about, if I can fit it within the allotted time. (It’s 3800 words, which should be doable.) If you’re local, I’d love to see you there!
You can reserve a ticket here, but attendance is free.
I have some other exciting news I’d love to share with you: not one, but two great things, both milestones for me. But alas, I cannot share the details with you yet, as the ink on both is not yet dry.
More to come when I can share, hopefully soon.
